How Companies Can Boost Productivity During March Madness

This week on The DayBreak Blog, we’re sharing some news based on what we are seeing in the current marketplace.

It’s that time of year again. March Madness has begun as the NCAA College Basketball Tournament is underway. Despite all of the entertainment and mayhem the tournament provides, it’s also a nightmare for employers. Last year, the tournament cost employers an estimated 17.3 billion dollars in lost productivity just last year alone according to a report.

So can businesses expect their employees to be mentally checked out for the next week or two, or is there a way that they can take advantage of hoops fever? Instead of employers throwing their hands up in defeat, there are ways that they can spin the event into a fun, team-building opportunity.

Here are a few ways companies can boost productivity during March Madness:

  1. Get employees to wear their favorite team’s gear to work to create a competitive and fun atmosphere.
  2. Have employees fill out brackets and offer fun prizes to winners.
  3. Choose a game or two that the whole team can watch together.
  4. Schedule meetings in the morning, and prioritize important tasks first thing before the games begin.
